I have been wanting a juicer for awhile now, and I finally bought one. I went ahead and bought a cheaper one from Target, and it works amazingly! It makes so much juice, and is super easy to clean up.

My favorite so far is cantaloupe/apple, and plum/peach/apple. Do you have a juicer? What are your favorite drinks? I need recommendations (especially veggie ones because I've only tried one and didn't really love it).

Sometimes prayers take awhile to be answered. But God is amazing, and Hannah got her pet monkey.

She's babysitting this adorable one-eyed monkey for a few weeks. Ever since Hannah was little she dreamed of having a monkey for a pet, and her dream has finally come true. Makes me realize anything is possible, and that's pretty darn exciting.

I can't believe I'm already 24 weeks and in just 16 short weeks Rainier will be here. Three weeks ago Ashlee took my first maternity pictures, and I love how they turned out. She's doing another round once I get huge, probably around 35 weeks. Hopefully next time she won't have to yell at me to "push OUT", in order to get some proper belly shots.

In other news, I'm having the hardest time finding a diaper bag that I like. I'm so picky, I know, but there just aren't very many cute ones to choose from. At first I wanted one that looked like a purse, but they are all either too shiny or too flashy (or too expensive like this one) so I gave up on that. I really only like plain leather bags, so that just wasn't happening. I definitely don't want a typical printed diaper bag, one with flowers or something equally as annoying on it. I just like simple. So, I think I found the one I want. Granted it's a "dad diaper bag", I think it's perfect. It's from Petunia Pickle Bottom's Scout line. What do you think?

I had this vintage Irmi lamp in my bedroom as a child. Being the terror that I was, I'm sure it was mostly my fault that it fell to pieces and had to be thrown away. When I saw it this past year at my favorite antique store, I had to buy it. It's going to be perfect in Rainier's nursery.

Also, what do you think about that green (the base of the ferris wheel) for wall color?

Even before I was pregnant, I designed the baby's nursery in my head and even started shopping. The only problem though, is that without meaning to I came up with a pretty girly looking room. So now it's time to incorporate more boyishness in my plan, and my first step is to find some cute prints. I was originally going to use all the prints I have in my bedroom already, but trust me they are way too girly for a little boy room- I'm not sure how Jordan puts up with them! Like I mentioned before, Hannah has a bunch of new designs available in her shop. These were all designed and created by Hannah while in Kenya, using some pretty incredible African fabric. Hannah is continuing her missionary work until November, when she will be coming home for a bit. Hannah plans on returning to Africa in the future as well, and as a missionary work she has to raise 100% of the funding she needs to be able to live and work there. This shop is Hannah's way of raising funds, as all the proceeds go directly to support her and her cause.

Hannah is currently in Kenya where she is working with the women of Amani Ya Juu, and on her spare time is designing a brand new collection that will be available for sale in her shop soon. She continues to need support for her amazing missionary work, which comes 100% from her online shop. The Kenya dress, which is now on sale, is the perfect summer dress that can be dressed up or down. I love wearing mine with moccasins and a leather belt, but I plan on dressing it up for special occasions this summer as well. The top layer is a beautiful sheer fabric that lays over a flowered/printed fabric underneath. The dress comes in three different colors, each with a matching ribbon belt.

Last night we went to a pre-grand opening for the Yard House in Roseville. I was so excited to go out with Jordan and a couple of my favorite friends. Until I ate that is, and everything went downhill. I ended up practically running out of the restaurant and crying the entire way home because I was so sick. But this is just a preview of what my days have become lately.

My first trimester went pretty wonderfully, minus the being extremely exhausted part. But then my summer job started up again, and everything has gone downhill. Working 40 hours a week, 80% of which are spent in the hot sun, with 20 something very energetic 7-year-olds has taken it's toll on me. My migraines have come back with a vengeance and the nausea that I was so happy to have avoided until now has been hitting me pretty hard. I had to ask my boss for one day off a week, specifically field trip days because those are the hardest, and I knew one of the lifeguards would fill in for me. While he wasn't exactly pleased, he made it work and I now have Wednesdays off.

Now I'm just praying that the little mid-week break from all the madness will provide rest my body is begging for. And hopefully I'll have a positive update soon.

Okay, now I realize it's June and I have another five months before my baby shower. But I love party planning and all the amazing ideas I've found on Pinterest. Even though my sister is going to throw the shower (she'll be home in early November), I decided I could put together a little something for inspiration. Yes, I'm that controlling SHH! Plus we are going to rent out the old Fair Oaks library building, because the guest list is about 80+ women. I can't wait.

The Great Debate.

As some of you might remember, we've had baby names picked out for awhile now. If our little gummy bear is a girl, her name will be Dandelion Lenore Gray. And if he's a he, his name will be Rainier DeForrest Gray. Now most people, or at least 80% of people I ask, think that Rainier is a good name but they aren't so sure about Dandelion. The biggest reason I've been given is, "She'll get made fun of so much when she's in Elementary School". I always argue, saying people name their kids the craziest things nowadays, nobody will even think it's weird by the time she's in Kindergarten. Well, today I got proof- and some pretty amazing insight considering nobody has thought twice about our boy name up to this point.

Well, today was my last day in the 5th grade class where I've been long-term subbing. I decided to tell them I am pregnant, because I'll be student teaching at the same school next year, so they will obviously be wondering where that huge tummy came from. They were so stinking excited, it was adorable. Then they asked what the names where that I had picked out. I figured this was an excellent time to get some good feedback from the true experts. I told them our girl name, and they thought it was perfect. They said they wouldn't make fun of a girl named Dandelion, and they loved the nickname Andi. One girl even said that it was a "perfect" name for my daughter because of "the way I am and how cool I am". Yeah, pretty amazing.

Then I told them the boy name, without thinking twice. A few asked, in shock, what I had said. I repeated the name and immediately at least six different kids started singing, "Rudolph the red nose Reindeer". One of the boys said, "we would definitely make fun of that kid, we'd call him Rudolph". And another said, "I'm sorry Mrs. Gray, but you should probably come up with a different boy name." I about died laughing, but Jordan didn't when I called him to tell him- he picked out the name.

But now we know, Dandelion is a perfectly acceptable name in a 10 year old world. But Rainier, on the hand, is way too close to Reindeer and just flat out sounds funny.

So do you want to know why I really haven't been on here much these past couple of months? Well, I've been busy taking naps like sloth, eating like a hippo, and you know... growing a baby in my belly.

Look at that cute little gummy bear! Jordan and I couldn't be more excited, and I couldn't wait any longer to share. Little Dandelion or Rainier will be the best Christmas present in the world (yup, the due date is Christmas Day!).

My lovely husband, Jordan, and I have completely different ideas of what jokes are funny, what good music sounds like, what should be considered art, and just about every thing else under the sun. He likes to blast rap music or of course my all time favorite- metal, while I love listening to my dad's old Simon and Garfunkel records. He comes home laughing about some pretty crude jokes he hears from the guys at work, while I still giggle at jokes about chickens crossing roads. If you haven't gotten the picture yet, check out his tumblr and see for yourself. I love him to death, but I think what makes our marriage work {no matter how ridiculous it may be} is how different we really are.

Except that just the other day, while checking out his tumblr and looking through the ridiculous pictures he posted, I saw this letterpress card. I laughed so hard I almost peed my pants. For some reason, we finally found something we both think is funny! I know you are probably thinking, big deal, but trust me it is a BIG deal. I definitely had to go buy this card today. This may be the only time in our lives we both laugh at the same thing... well, except for Family Guy of course.

Spring Break was a huge success, I had a ton of fun, got a lot done, and got some pretty exciting news that I will share soon. On Wednesday Jordan's mom, Alison, taught me how to sew. {I need about 100 more lessons before I can do anything on my own- but at least it's a start!}

I wore the dress I made when I went out to dinner with Liz, Katie, and Moorea on Friday night. Liz and I decided to have a photoshoot before hand, and the last pictures just gives you a hint at how great I am with posing {what a nerd}.

Picnic Day.

On Monday I went on a picnic with my mom, one of her best friends, and her friend's new son that she adopted from Ethiopia. Isn't he just the most adorable kid in the world? He's so full of energy and love, and has the cutest little voice in the world. He pushed me on the swings, chased squirrels like a madman, and blew bubbles like a pro- he blew a bubble then bounced it on his elbow more than twenty times! Isn't that insane?

The Dress.

Today I decided to try on one of Hannah's dresses (one that I don't already own for myself, but am now thinking I want to buy), and take a few pictures. I'm hoping to take a few new pictures for Hannah's site soon. The Kenya dress is the perfect spring/summer-time dress, and I wanted to show just how versatile it really is. It can be dressed up or down, paired with heels or flip-flops (or if you are like me moccasins), and it is so stinking comfy. I pictured myself wearing this on the beach in Hawaii, but posing in front of an old fence will have to do for now. While I didn't have enough time or energy to photograph all her dresses today, here are a couple shots.

My favorite part is that the green sheer fabric is longer in the back, and it makes for a great twirling dress- your inner 6 year old would love it. It also comes with a matching drawstring belt, but I like to pair everything with the belt shown, I just can't help it.

Also, just so you know, all proceeds from Hannah's shop go to fund her missionary work. She is currently in Liberia where she is working with Amani Ya Juu to open their newest location. She continues to need funding so that she can stay in Africa until November, and then go back again later of course. Hannah plans on spending her life working in the missionary field, so support is always needed. She has a new project she's starting soon as well, and I will keep you updated when that gets underway.

Knocked Up Out.

No, I'm not pregnant but I do have a funny story about getting "knocked up".

Yesterday, I went to sub for an hour in the Kindergarten class where I used to student teach. When I sat down with the kids, one of the little boys runs up to me and screams, "MRS. GRAY CAN WE PLAY THAT GAME WHERE I GET KNOCKED UP?"

The game is 'Knock Out'. How do you explain to a 5 year old what the difference is, especially when laughing hysterically?

Project ThreeSixtyFive: Week Thirteen.

Last week's pictures make me smile. I love Spring and all the wonderfullness of it (yup, that's a word I don't care what you say). What more could you ask for than pretty backyards, yummy treats, pregnant bellies, fresh flowers, spring dresses, happy dogs, and bbqs? The only thing I'm missing is my hammock and a day off work, but that will come soon.

And please say a prayer that I survive this week. Even though it's the middle of the semester all of my classes are coming to an end. I have my PACT (a hundred or so page report/videotape/lesson plan) due Sunday, my RICA (four hour reading instruction test) on Saturday, my VAPA (visual and performing arts) class final due tomorrow, and tonight is the last night of my technology instruction course. Holy MOLY! But then all I have left for this semester is student teaching, including two weeks of solo teaching, and an observation final, neither of which I'm stressed about!

PS If I do survive this week, I promise I'll start posting more than just my Project 365 pictures... really, I will.

A Hannah Update.

Holy cow, I miss my sister so much. It's actually a lot harder than I thought it would be, but I'm so proud of her. She started a blog for Amani Liberia, where you can read all about the creation of the newest Amani, and find the most inspirational stories. It's so amazing what they are doing for these women, I can't even put it into words. Here is a video from the fashion show Korto Momolu did in Colombus in support of Amani.

I also want to remind everyone that Hannah's shop is still full of beautiful dresses and necklaces. She continues to need support for her missionary work so that she is able to stay in Africa for the next year, and possibly years to come. While I want her to get home already, I believe in what she is doing and want to ask for everyone's continued support.

My sister made me the most beautiful charm bracelet after I graduated from college, and I'm finally getting around to sharing pictures of it (I graduated almost three years ago). She collected antique charms from all over, and made the bracelet with three different types of chain. She even made it so that it could be attached to a longer chain and worn as a necklace.

Each charm has a special meaning, but the best is the girl on top of the world. She said it's because I've always thought the world revolves around me- yup, even when making the sweetest gift in the world, she's still a typical little sister (who has no idea what she's talking about by the way!) I also love the grapes for my wedding, and the book and apple for teaching.

Mondays are my favorite. No matter how stressful they may be, they are always a sign of a fresh start. After reading Danielle's post on her five goals for the week, I decided to set my own. It's always so easy to get stuck on one area of your life that you want to improve, and the rest just starts to slip. What better way to keep yourself well-rounded than by setting five goals each week, in very specific categories that reach every part of your life. I'm feeling quite inspired as you can probably tell.

Nutrition- Kick the sugar habit for the week and drink lots of water. This means no giving in to the 'Wednesday Sweets' in the staff room, which for some reason like to appear every day of the week just to torture me.

Exercise- Yoga class Tuesday and Thursday night- there are no excuses for missing it this week.

Relationships- Make dinner for Jordan at least three times this week. I've been such a slacker in the housewife area, it's time to start working on that.

Creativity- Get caught up on my 365 project & make the star garland for Maren's birthday party. I will post more about this project soon.

MeTime- Finish reading The Christian Atheist.

Forty Days, Forty Bags.

After reading this post about the 40 Days, 40 Bags project, I knew I had to do it. While I've never fully participated in Lent, with the intention of ridding my life of something that takes away my focus on God, I figured it's never too late to start. For the 40 days of Lent (which I started a few days late) I am going through a different part of my house, cleaning it out and getting rid of anything I don't need. My goal is to clean my life and house of all the extra stuff, filling up bags and leaving more room for God. I've already finished my bedroom, and it feels great.

Ohh, I cannot wait until day 40. A fresh start, a clean house, and a happy heart is what I'm looking forward to.

How adorable is the new ferris wheel lamp I bought? I had this lamp when I was little. It was one of the few things I actually remember from Ohio. I saw it at the antique store the other day, and when I showed my mom a picture she said we had to go buy it right away. It's going to be the perfect nursery lamp some day, but for now it matches my room perfectly. Yes, my bedroom probably looks like your five-year-old's, but I'm okay with that.

PS It also plays music when you wind it up. I'm obsessed.

I'm always a little behind, but I'm okay with that. I loved reading everyone's six confessions posts recently, and am finally getting around to make a list of my own. So here you go.

1. When getting into bed at night I have to run and leap in because I'm still afraid there may be something hiding under there, ready to grab me by the feet.

2. I hate pepper.

3. I don't really like food. I just like candy, and it's a problem.

4. I want to name my first daughter Dandelion more than anything, but I'm scared everyone will convince me to do otherwise.

5. Every time someone calls me "Ash", I automatically shout "LEY" inside my head. Don't ask why, I don't hate being called Ash, I'm just weird.

6. When I was a kid I thought "Queen of the world" was a real job, one that I was going to have someday.

ProjectThreeSixtyFive: Week Nine.

This Bible heart picture is by far my favorite picture in my 365 set so far. I know this picture has been taken a million times, by a million different people, but I just had to take one of my own. I've been playing around with the manual focus mode on my camera, and enjoying taking pictures so much more. I really need to learn more about the camera in general, because taking a picture a day gives me so much more time to work on it. I'm hoping to start working through the online camera lessons again soon. Maybe I just need a little motivation- anybody want to do it with me?

When I was little my sister and I loved playing dress up in my mom's closet. Well, some things never change and Midway Antique Mall is like a giant dress-up closet. Liz and I spent Saturday at an amazing estate sale (where I got this album for $1!), and then stopped by my favorite place in the world- Midway. Grandma's Closet.

I've had this vintage Oscar de la Renta silk scarf hanging from my bookshelf since my grandma passed away years ago. I've never found a way to wear it, I'm just not that talented with scarfs or any other difficult piece of fashion. But I finally pulled it down and was determined to find a way to wear it today.

My sister is going to laugh when she sees this post. The day after she left I definitely raided her closet. She has so much cute stuff, and she is going to be gone for the next year. It's like I got a whole new wardrobe.

This was a rough week with my sister leaving and all, but at least I have a funny picture of her the night before she hopped on that plane. Who else would wear a scarf, hat, leather jacket and pj pants? Well, Hannah of course- she wanted to look cute in case we took pictures before she left. Little did she know, all I wanted was a full body shot of this amazing outfit!

What Makes Me Smile.

After reading Kyla's post, I was inspired to make my own 'happiness list'. There are some days (actually most days) when I need a little pick me up, and if I don't make a conscious effort to do something to brighten my mood- it only gets worse. I've battled with severe depression since I was 18 (that's 8 long years), and am always looking for positive ways to overcome dark days. I've also had doctor's tell me that I have ADHD, which I don't listen to, so remembering these things takes a little extra effort on my part. That's where the list making comes in, I make to-do lists for just about everything in my life. At the moment I have 11 'stickies' on my macbook, a couple almost as big as the screen itself. So here is my list of what makes me happy, a little reminder of all the things I can do to brighten my mood. I'm thinking about printing this out & posting it a few places in my house as well.

Take a picture.
Cuddle with Horton.
Take a bubble bath.
Buy flowers from Trader Joes.
Brew a glass of loose-leaf tea.
Read my Bible.
Send someone an email just to say hi.
Go for a walk.
Develop a roll of film.
Write a letter on my typewriter.
Go to a yoga class.
Make something pretty.
Blog.
Go to bed early.
Read.
Eat a piece of chocolate & don't feel bad about it.
Have a dance party by myself.
Read my entire google reader.
Skype with someone I miss.
Clean out my email inbox.
Play one of my dad's old records.

Comment on a few blogs.
Play fight with Jordan.
Pluck my eyebrows.
Give myself a manicure.
Get a pedicure.
Clean out my purse.
Bake cookies.
Listen to an old favorite song.
Take a long nap.
Hangout at my parent's house.
Have dinner/lunch with a friend.
Watch tv with Jordan & don't argue about what to watch.
Go to Big Spoon & put as many toppings on as possible.
Eat a healthy meal.
Go to the House of Prayer.

The Return Of The Sleeptalker.

Jordan is probably going to kill me for posting this, because I haven't even told him about it yet. But it's just too funny to not share, and I'm sure Liz is going to get a kick out of this- I'm pretty sure he was dreaming about you in this one!

Last night I got to bed pretty late because I stayed up Skypeing with Hannah. Jordan was sound asleep, and this was the conversation we had. I about peed my pants it was so funny:

Jordan: Hey have you seen my artwork?
Me: What artwork?
Jordan: My artwork, it's hanging from the ceiling (he points up).
Me: HAHA, yeaaahh now I see it.
Jordan: You really need to make a hole in the wall.
Me: What? A hole in the wall?
Jordan: Yeah for my Mexicans?
Me: YOUR WHAT?
Jordan: For MY Mexicans! You need to make a hole in the wall so they can get out and get to work already! They need to get to work.

Ohhhh boy, what in the world goes through his head when he's asleep?

Sometimes when life gets rough I enjoy a good long session of daydreaming. Here are a few things I've been daydreaming about lately, which won't be dreams for long.

To Skype with my sister. Yes, I miss her already.

For 6.11.2011 aka first day of summer break.

& for my hair to finally grow as long as hers.

Hannah is on a plane right now, on her way to Ohio before she leaves for Africa in two weeks. I'm going to miss her so much, I've been dreading this day for awhile now. I'm trying not to think about it too much, but I'm so excited for her & so proud of her accomplishments. She is my best friend, and I am so blessed to have her as my sister. Now I'm going to go cry in my bedroom and pray that the next year will go by fast.

In other news, I haven't been around much this past week for a few reasons, but I plan on returning soon (especially since I'm two weeks behind in my 365 pictures). Jordan's cousin, who was like his big brother, died last weekend and its been really hard on all of us.

I'm hoping for brighter days soon, even though with all things considering it's going to be tough for awhile. I hate missing people, and I'm doing a lot of that right now.

Kenya Dress.

Hannah came out with a new design today, and it's by far my favorite. This dress is so gorgeous, I can't wait to wear mine (I got the gray one). This is her first design that comes in multiple sizes (pictured is a size Medium), but there are only a limited number of each. Hannah is leaving for Africa on the 22nd, and she continues to need all the support she can get. With a $1200 Malaria medicine bill and the shipping cost for the sewing machines needed for Amani Liberia, the price tag on Hannah's missionary work keeps getting bigger- so any and all support is greatly appreciated. Please spread the word, do a little shopping, and say a prayer for Hannah as she moves across the world (I haven't even began really thinking about it, I can't even look at that day in my planner with out getting tears in my eyes- it's going to be rough).

Project ThreeSixtyFive: Week Five.

Another week down. I'm loving doing this 365 project even though it's a lot of work. I also had a little set back this week when my dad installed the latest operating system on my MacBook and all my actions were deleted. But my Photoshop finally runs fast, and my computer is so much better! At least this week's pictures are better then last (those were embarrassing).

Over winter break I got to sub as the librarian at the elementary school where I student teach. It was a blast because I got to teach every class, and I got to know a majority of the kids on campus. But the weird part was that on the first day at least ten different kids, from all different grades, said I looked like Katy Perry. Up until then I didn't even know what she looked like- I went home the first night and google image searched her. At first it was just, "Mrs. Gray you look like Katy Perry!" or "Are you related to Katy Perry?". But because I'm mainly talking about 10-12 year olds, things have gotten out of control. I'm now known as 'Mrs. Perry' by a majority of the sixth graders, and even had someone scream "Hey look, it's Katy Perry!" at me while I was pumping gas one afternoon.

I honestly DON'T see the resemblance at all! But I'm a good sport about it- I guess it's kind of funny, and only slightly obnoxious.

Oh yeah, and I had a group of girls beg me to sing one of her songs. They thought I was insane when I didn't know any of them. Not that I would have sung one if I did!

Birthstone.

I grew up hating my birthstone, the ruby. Maybe it's the whole "wanting what others have" thing, but luckily I grew out of that because now I adore it. When my grandmother passed away she left each one of her daughters and granddaughters a ring. She left me a beautiful silver ring with a large amber stone. I've only worn it a few times, and have let my mom wear it for the past few years- it's a little too big for me and I prefer gold. Then the other day I was looking at the one my grandma left my mom, and I fell in love. It's a gorgeous 14K gold ring with rubies (well, my grandpa said they are rubies, but they may be garnets- either way it's gorgeous). My mom agreed to switch with me, and I'm pretty sure my grandma wouldn't mind considering how much I love this one.

I can't wait to get it resized so I can wear it every day. Isn't it gorgeous?

Well, I made it through my first week of full-day student teaching and classes. I even subbed two days this week, and I'm still alive. That's impressive if I do say so myself. Man's Best Friend.

This weekend's church service was about friendship & why friendship matters. The entire message was wonderful, but this part of the notes was my favorite.

What We Can Learn From Man's Best Friend
1. Be loyal.
2. When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
3. Take naps often and stretch before rising.
4. If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
5. When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.
6. Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
7. No matter how often you're scolded, don't sulk and pout. Run right back and make friends.

Our pastor also reminded us that when you love a dog, they think you are a god. But when you love a cat, they think they are a god. Ohhh, how I love canines.

In addition she has a bunch of beautiful designs from previous collections, so there is definitely something for everyone. I finished my second week of pictures, even with all the stress of subbing in 5th grade and as the school librarian (which is insane by the way- I have so much respect for librarians after this week). So now I think I might actually be able to do this project once school starts.

Change Of Heart: Kindle Love.

For Christmas I got a bunch of fabulous presents, all of which I was really excited about. My favorite was something from my sister, but I can't tell you what it is until I get it back from her & take pictures (hopefully after her shop is up and running she'll have time- hint, hint). My second favorite gift was a Kindle from Jordan. I just have to say, I wasn't 100% sold on the idea at first- but now I'm absolutely in love for so many reasons. Here are a few:

• It's SO easy to read. I don't even have to wear my glasses to see it clearly.

• I can take it anywhere. It's super durable, so I just toss it in my purse on my way out the door.

• It's extremely lightweight, so my arms don't get tired from holding it up. What can I say- I'm a wimp.

• I love not having to fumble from page to page & my place is always held. As long as your family doesn't get a hold of it & change the page on you.

• I downloaded the Bible that's broken up so that I can read it in a year. This is one NY goal I won't break, especially because it's so much fun to read on the Kindle.

• I was able to find a Kindle book lamp that attaches to the top. I love reading before bed, but Jordan can't stand when I have the light on.

• It was a great price. Well, actually it was a gift so it was free for me. But if you are looking into buying one, $139 is such a deal. And you'll save money in the end, because if you're like me you buy books all the time- and they are much cheaper this way.

Now, I am still a huge fan of real books. I love collecting books & having bookcases full. But for now, I'm going to focus on children's books (which I am obsessed with) & making that collection larger. I'm sure if I read a book on my Kindle that I absolutely love, I'll buy a hard copy.

Oh boy, here's a great time to start making fun of me. I am such a nerd for posting this, but it's my blog & I can do what I want, right? Jordan was giving me the hardest time for this one. Hannah was over last night, and we decided we would do a really good job at casting for the Hunger Games. So we told Jordan that he & Kevin needed to make dinner while we got to work. Yes, Hollywood called us & asked us to take over the casting so the movie could begin production next month. So after much debate, here is our list for the main characters (and NO, we did not include anyone from Twilight thankyouverymuch):

Katniss- Emily Browning {Have you seen Lemony Snicket? This girl is beautiful & she can act}

Gale- Ben Barnes {Oh hello, Price Caspian}

Peeta- Hunter Parrish {Not the hottest actor, but he's adorable in Weeds & Peeta needs to be "adorable"}

Finnick- Garrett Hedlund {The only problem with casting Garrett as Finnick is that they will need to make Finnick's role bigger so we can see more of him}

Rue- Jadagrace {Adorable little girl, looks like Rue, plus she can sing & remember Rue sang to the birds)

Haymitch- Hugh Laurie {He's the best drunk on TV, and he's my favorite}

My sister has been working her butt off, getting ready to open her online shop. She is currently hidden away in her sewing room, creating a bunch of new (and ridiculously adorable) dresses exclusively for her shop. She has about 20 pieces from previous collections that will be available online as well as these new dresses, so there is definitely something for everyone (unless of course you are either male, or just don't like wearing amazing clothes). I have been working to get the shop up and running, and everything is in place- all we are waiting for is to fill it up with goodness. She is hoping to have all finished in the next couple of weeks, so I promise to keep you updated. This is a great way for you to support Hannah in her missionary work, as all proceeds will be going towards her move to Africa. Stay tuned for more details, and in the meantime you can look at Hannah's beautiful designs and learn more about her mission on her blog.

A New Pet.

~~I think~~ I need a hedgehog. No seriously, how adorable are these little guys? Someday when I have a classroom of my own, I'm definitely going to get one as a class pet. But of course, he will be coming home with me all the time- I sure hope Jordan won't mind. I don't know how he could say no.

Do you like how I used the excuse of needing a classroom pet to justify me getting a hedgehog? Yeah, I'm smooth. PS in California you can only have one if you have a special license from the USDA for educational or film reasons. I think I can convince them that a special education elementary classroom needs one, right?

Les Champignons.

I bought these four prints at a little gift/antique shop in Sutter Creek the other week. I love them so much, I almost squeeled when I first saw them. It was even more perfect, because the owner of the store was out and her 10-year-old son was running shop. He was so adorable, and so professional, it made me giggle.

My favorite is the carrot one, but I do love the mushrooms. It's actually quite funny because I despise eating mushrooms, but I love looking at them.

Also, are any of you doing a 365 project? My sister and I both are {which I'll be blogging once a week}, and I wanted to see if anyone else is.

While ~~spring~~ winter cleaning her house, my mom found this camera for me. It was my dad's and they are letting me "have" it. My mom also found a bunch of expired disposable cameras that only had a few pictures taken on them. My brother made so much fun of me when I took one of them with us to Jackson this past week. "You have six cameras, and you are bringing that one?" Well, yes as a matter of fact I am, and I am very happy with my decision. Even though half the pictures didn't come out at all, the film didn't advance most of the time, and the ones that did turn out have a nice green vignette around then- I loved it.

I especially liked that when I went to pick up the film, the guy told me that none of them turned out & I probably wouldn't want them. It reminded me of my first Holga film experience.

I've been wanting a pair of boots like these for so long, and I finally found them. Even though I love wearing dresses (and own about a million), I'm a jeans and tshirt girl at heart. And I'm finally learning how to dress for the winter. No more moccasins in the rain, that should be my New Year's resolution. And for once I actually have a good pair of "rain boots" I can wear instead. Here's to warm toes!

To celebrate the new year, I put up my 2011 letterpress calendar from Ilee Papergoods. I bought this recently at Renegade & have been anxious to put it up ever since. I used Katie's technique of using clothespins to hang them on the wall in our little entrance.

Also, yesterday for my mom's birthday we went up to Jackson County area to do a little antique store hunting. We stopped at that creepy, yet ridiculously amazing, antique store I blogged about awhile back and this time the owner was actually around. He was exactly as I had imagined, and can be summed up with this conversation we overhead him having with a fellow shopper:

Owner: "Somedays I just wish a big ol' earthquake would hit"
Shopper: "Why because you have insurance?"
Owner: "Nope, I just wanna go fishin'"

He was adorable, and so are the three flowered tins I bought from him, which are now sitting in the entry way under the calendar.

A Simple Resolution.

I don't want to start over this new year, I'm happy with where I am and what I'm doing. But I do have one simple resolution, this year I will spend more time outdoors. You may wonder why I need to make this a resolution, or why this even matters enough to blog about. But for me, being outside is the key to happiness & this year I plan on being as happy as humanly possible. Well, how about as humanly possible for me- I don't mind giving in to the grumpy Ashley ever once in awhile.

When I Grow Up.

When I was really little (like 3ish) I dreamed of growing up to become "the queen of the world". Yes, I honestly thought that was a job title. I even went to the state capitol, and told my mom, "someday I'm going to live in a house like this". Then someone told me that wasn't really a feasible career choice, so I decided I wanted to be a teacher. Most people grow up dreaming of being one thing, and then turn out to be something completely different. I, on the other hand, decided very early on what I wanted to do with my life. I later (in my confused early college years) tried to take about a million other paths, but eventually ended up back where I started... dreaming of becoming a teacher. The only change was that I added on the dream of special education, which is where I am now.

My mom kept a ton of my school work when I was growing up. I have a huge box in my closet full of papers, drawings, report cards, awards... you name it, it's there. I found this the other day, and it made me smile. My one dream was to be a teacher. Who ever said dreams don't come true, was wrong.

PS I think I owe a lot of this to my sister, who I forced into playing "school" with me every day growing up. And of course, as any good big sister would do, I always bullied her into being the class while I got to be the teacher (I had a thing with being in charge & trust me- some things don't change).

So, what did you want to be when you grew up (whatever that means)?

Amani Liberia

I have a news update on my sister's missionary work in Africa & I'm so excited to finally be able to share what she has planned for the new year. Hannah will be moving back to Africa in January where she will be helping open up the newest Amani location in Liberia. If you know anything about the recent history of Liberia, you will understand what an amazing accomplishment this is for the country and women of Amani. {If you want to learn more about this countries history, you should really watch Pray The Devil Back To Hell- it's amazing.}

Anyway, you should definitely check out my sister's post about Amani Liberia and the Amani newsletter. I'm so excited for her, and can't wait to see where this journey takes her. Yes, we went to a 'cheezy sweater party' this past weekend. It was pretty darn hilarious. I'm sad to say, however, that most of the pictures I took didn't turn out at all. I will try to get a picture of what Jordan wore though. Let just put it this way, he had rhinestones, glitter, pink, velvet, and a shirt that was about 10 times too small- it was ridiculous.

This weekend my sister's boyfriend, Kevin, asked if I would play photographer and take pictures of him for a Christmas present. His mom has been bugging him for pictures for years, so he finally caved. I almost forgot to share these pictures, and I got really excited when I stumbled across them today. Awhile ago my sister made her best friend's son, Lucas, the most adorable plush dinosaur. The neck/body has a big L on it, and the rest of his name is spelled out on little blocks that attach to the body with hidden magnets.

How adorable is that? P.S. Are you ready for Christmas? I can't believe it's already the 14th, yikes!

When I was little my best friend's father was native american, and I always loved going to their house. Even though he was a tad bit scary, I was intrigued. I absolutely love native american art, jewelry, and clothing. Recently one of the grandfather's of a student brought me a catalog from the Southwest Indian Foundation. They have some of the most amazing things for sale, and all proceeds go to help the tribes.

Have I mentioned lately how excited I am for Christmas? Oh yeah, sorry- but I just can't help it. I love this time of year so much. And it doesn't help that I'm teaching Kindergarten, being around 25 five-year-olds all day makes the excitement that much more intense. Seriously, we sing "Mommasita, donde esta Santa Claus" and do the Reindeer Pokey all day.

Here are a few more pictures of all the holiday-ness in the Gray house. I tried to take pictures of the pendant banner Hannah and I made (I glued on the letters backwards three times before she took over), but I couldn't get a good shot. It's my favorite thing right now- it says "Happy Birthday Jesus"! Actually, you can kind of see it in the first picture.

I wrote my first "guest post" for Erin aka Happy Owl (I love that girl!). Now I know most people share DIYs and other fun things like that when they guest blog, but I wanted to share something that was close to my heart. Volunteering time, donating money (when I actually have any), and helping others is something I've always loved to do. While I love everything that Katie blogs, her I Can't Wait posts always make me smile. I love making lists, so I'm sure that has something to do with it. But I also love the anticipation of making a list of all the things I'm excited to do. Holiday Wreath DIY.

My new Christmas wreath:

It was so easy to make this wreath:

1. Cut a bunch of strips of fabric.
2. Wrap the strips around a foam wreath and pin them into place.
3. Pinch and twist the remaining fabric pieces into little flowers and pin them around the wreath.
4. Hot glue some moss, a mushroom, and a deer on the inside bottom.
5. Tie a ribbon around the top & you're done!
6. Smile.

If you haven't read my blog in the past couple of days, I'm spending this week focusing on what I am thankful for in my life. I have so many things to be thankful for, I could have spent the entire month writing about this. Today's focus are my little kiddos, which I am grateful for every time I see their little stinky faces. If you didn't already know, we have three dogs. Diamond and Wilson were Jordan's dogs before I met him, and I adopted Horton (my first dog) from Jordan's mom before we got married. At first Jordan wasn't going to let me have Horton, but he just couldn't resist his adorable little face, crooked tale, and floppy ears. Who could?

Last night I decided to spend this week blogging about all the things I am thankful for in my life. I know Jordan was already included in my family post, but I just have to say again how grateful I am to have found him. If you had told me five years ago I'd soon find my best friend and marry him shortly after, I would have laughed at you. But here we are. Here are the top five reasons why I'm so thankful for Jordan:

1. He is the sweetest, most gentle guy (when he wants to be). I think he might even be more sensitive than me, if you can believe that. He's always there for me when I need him, and he is my best friend.

2. He makes me laugh, even if it's just at how ridiculous he is. I mean honestly, do you know any other guy that loves Muppet Babies and listens to Metal? Yeah, I didn't think so. Plus, he's always got new jokes (some a little too inappropriate for my taste, but funny nonetheless).

3. He is reallyreallygoodlooking (read that with a Zoolander accent please). He also dresses nicer than me, not joking.

4. He loves kids and wants to start a family with me (some day soon hopefully). He is even going to let me name our daughter Dandelion, which is my dream.

5. We share the same faith and dreams in life. Yup, we were meant for eachother and no matter how hard things can get- because trust me marriage isn't all kisses and smiles- we will always be in love.

Isn't my mother beautiful?

Thanksgiving is such an important holiday, that I almost always take for granted. But this year, I'm determined to spend time remembering all that I have to be thankful for in my life. So what better way than to blog each day this week about all the wonderfullness (yes, that's a word) in my life- starting with my family of course. I hate to say it, but I think I have the best family there is. I mean come on, my two best friends are my husband and my sister. I also have the world's most loving and wonderful mother ever to walk the Earth. And of course, I can't leave out my Dad, who at one time mowed a peace sign into the field while he was in the Airforce (hello, can you top that story?!). And my two big brothers who drive me insane, but are the most hilarious and gentle people you will ever meet. Need I say more? I definitely got the luck of the draw when it comes to family selection and I thank God for that every day.

Almost 12 days with no blog posts? That's pathetic. But then again, that's what grad school does to you. I'm surprised I made it out of last week alive. But it's okay I'm back, and better than ever. Yesterday I joined pinterest, and I'm loving it. After hearing about it from Katie, I had to see it for myself. Here is my pinterest page. It makes browsing the internet so much easier. So many times I find something I want to buy, or a DIY I can't wait to try... but my ADD kicks in and I forget to save the page. Now all I have to do is pin in, it's like Ritalin for the internet.

I spent a lot of time this weekend editing pictures from the past few months so that I can get them printed. Which, I suggest you all do if you don't already. I used to keep my pictures on my computer, until I had a laptop break on me and I lost all my pictures from my freshman year at UCSB. I learned my lesson, and photo albums are my friend. I found a bunch of great ones that I missed the first time through, so expect lots of randomness on my blog coming up.

But I just had to share these. I'm such a nerd, in case you didn't already know. I have a hard time taking a serious picture, so almost every folder has at least one of me making a face like this:

I'm not sure how other people get cute pictures of their dogs, because for me... it doesn't happen so often. My dogs just don't like to pose for the camera, and it's extremely frustrating. When the Giants won the World Series, Jordan's mom made Horton and Wilson winter sweaters with their logo on the back. She surprised me with them and I immediately pulled out my camera to take pictures. After chasing my kids around the house for about a half hour, I gave up. You can kind of see the sweater in the top picture. And as you can tell, they started to get tired so in the end I was able to get a few pictures that aren't completely blurry.

Aren't Horton's sleepy eyes just adorable in that last picture?

For my brother's birthday (last year), I promised him business cards. Yes, it took me over a year to actually get around to designing them, but better late than never. I think they turned out awesome, and the details in his artwork are so clear. We used Print 100 for these and for Jordan's, which we just sent in to get printed. I promise to share those as soon as they get here.

New: I bought my first pair of earrings since I was a little girl (yipeee!). I have horribly sensitive skin, so wearing them is torture. But I recently learned that all you need is a little Neosporin daily to treat the irritation, and it really does work. I bought these Laura Lombardi brass bar earrings from Magpie & Rye, and I think I may finally be an earring kind of girl.

Old: While I was so happy to take a picture of my new earrings, I ended up wanting to cry. Can you see the wrinkles? Now, I know they aren't horrible (yet), but they are still there. I've always thought wrinkles and gray hair are beautiful on women, but I've never thought about them on me. Anyway, I'll be 30 in just 3.5 short years and I guess a few crow's feet are normal, but it's still a tad bit depressing. Maybe I'll start photoshopping them out hehe.

Who made the rule that grownups aren't allowed to play make believe? Now, I know it's developmentally appropriate for young children to have a difficult time distinguishing reality from imaginary, but I don't see why that distinction should stop us from using our imaginations. Somedays I just want to escape reality, and what better way than to play pretend? I'm thinking a tea party with my old dolls and stuffed animals is in order.

One of the little guys in my Kindergarten class is always playing make believe, and it's hilarious:

While sitting at rug time, listening to the teacher, Brian* puts his hand up to his face, making a pretend phone.
Brian- "Ring Ring, Hey mom it's me. Yeah, I'm just sitting in class."
Me- "Shhh, Brian. You need to listen now."
Brian- "Ohhh, mom I got to go"
Brian pretends to push a few buttons, hang up his phone, and put it in his pocket.
Brian- "Sorry Mrs. Gray, I had an important phone call!"

Then the other day, during recess, Brian comes running up to me. He's completely hysterical, screaming and crying, with tears running down his little face. I could have sworn he had broken his arm or something terrible, but ohhh no it was much worse.
Me- "Brian, what's wrong?!"
Brian- JACKSON STOLE MY COOKBOOK AND THREW IT OVER THE FENCE. AND. I. WAS. MAKING. LASAGNA. IN. THE. SANDBOOOOOOOX!"
Me- "Oh no, well guess what! I already got it for you and it's here in my pocket"
I handed him back his invisible cookbook, which I "saved".
Brian- "Thanks Mrs. Gray!"
He skips off, all smiles, back to the sandbox to making another dinner.
Then his little friend, who was standing behind him, says, "Ohhh don't worry, Mrs. Gray, I made a copy of my cookbook!"

My Dream Neighborhood.

Someday I want to live somewhere with a view, a dirt road, and an apple orchard down the street. I love Apple Hill, and plan on moving there someday. Okay, I may not actually live in Apple Hill but I at least want to move to Placerville, which is close enough for me. On Sunday Jordan and I drove up there for lunch. We bought a bunch of apples, saw two beautiful wolves, and ate the most delicious pumpkin pie cheesecake in the world. I let myself slide on the whole no eating sugar thing, I just couldn't resist. But honestly, who wouldn't want to live somewhere like this? I think it's magical.

P.S. Only 54 days until Christmas!

I think I may be completely alone on this, but I just hate Halloween. I've tried in the past to enjoy it, but I just can't seem to even fake it this year. Now when I was younger I liked Halloween, but only for one simple reason: CANDY! You all know how much of a sugar addict I am, so being able to collect pillowcases full of candy and eat it all... that was heaven. But besides the sugar high I was able to ride for about a week, the rest of the holiday was torture for several reasons.

1. I'm a scaredy cat to the extreme (see picture below). I have always had a severe phobia of clowns, and until this last year I slept with my light on. (The husband wouldn't go for it once we got married). So why in the world would I have fun on a night where everybody is out to scare the crap out of me? I really would rather lock myself in the bathroom then be around all of you vampires, monsters, and bloody creatures, thank you very much.

2. I can't handle the whole dressing up part. Wearing makeup, let alone finding a decent costume, is just downright stressful for me. Hello anxiety disorder. Although I did think it would be really funny if Jordan and I dressed up as Jack and The Beanstalk.

3. I like to be in bed by 9:30, and I am a complete hermit. Lame, I know.

4. Apparently I'm too old to Trick Or Treat. Who says a 26 year old can't go door to door begging for candy? Life can be so cruel.

With that being said, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

So this week is Red Ribbon Week at my elementary school, and each day has a special theme. Tuesday was 'Hugs Not Drugs' so the kids brought their teddy bears to school. Tuesday was crazy sock day (there was a cute name that had to do with knocking the socks off something). Well, what I didn't realize was that crazy sock day means you wear crazy socks underneath your jeans. Yep, I showed up in polka dotted tights and stripe socks up to my knees. It doesn't help that I'm 6 feet tall, so I already stick out like a sore thumb in the midst of 25 five year olds. But it's okay because my kids loved my socks and they were so excited when I showed up in my silly outfit:

Remember when I told you about my new favorite friend, Face, and her amazing artwork. I bought one of her shirts and I am absolutely in love with it. Face explained the owl creature in an email:

It's from the Ricky Gervais podcast. He's been doing this for ages; it highlights the truly bizarre outlook and sayings of his friend Karl Pilkington. Karl essentially thinks like a kindergartener. One podcast, they were having a discussion about how to make the best animal -best at surviving and being awesome and stuff. You know like, head of a lion, arms of a gorilla, tail of a giant scorpion or something. But Karl thought the best animal would have an armadillo body (for protection), slug juice instead of feet (“it's mainly meant to be on walls”), an owl head (to make it look nice to humans so they won't harm it), and peacock feathers (to deter predators).

Pretty hilarious, huh?

P.S. Go check out Face's blog. She just got it up and running again, and it's pretty darn awesome. I especially love her tshirt leeching tutorial. Who wants to try this with me?
